| Project Description | ||
This 1,500-stall parking garage for Legacy Health System's Salmon Creek Hospital was the first parking structure in the Pacific Northwest to utilize SmartBeam technology, and take advantage of Stearns' design/build steel construction breakthroughs for long-span and heavily loaded floor systems. Stearns used SmartBeam to span the 62-foot bays on each of the seven floors of the structure, and for the perimeter girders; thereby achieving a 50% weight reduction compared to concrete structures. SmartBeam was chosen over concrete because the lighter weight material reduced foundation demand, provided substantial cost savings, improved garage lighting and security and accelerated the construction schedule. Legacy Salmon Creek Parking Garage received the following rating: • U.S. Green Building Council LEED in 2004; achievement level: Recognition. | ||
