Maui Memorial

Stearns was approached by Hawaiian Dredging to provide a structural steel alternative to an original concrete design which threatened the budget and completion of the 80,000 square-foot addition. Thin shell concrete wall panels were chosen to provide the exterior skin for the building. A high degree of coordination was required to ensure that tight dimensional tolerances were achieved between bracing, secondary framing, and wall panels. Stearns’ structural steel option resulted in an economical system that brought the hospital addition to completion on time and within budget. Maui Memorial Medical Center is the oldest and largest acute care facility of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation-operated facilities.
